The BIG IF event staged ahead of the 39th G8 summit to be held Lough Erne Resort, County Fermanagh on 17th and 18th June 2013 to encourage and put pressure on global governments to tackle global hunger in 2013 with the campaign “Enough Food For Everyone IF…”.
At the event, Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates praised Britain for “leading the way” on tackling child hunger.A number of other celebities also supported the event with comments from Rowan Williams,David Harewood and broadcaster Natasha Kaplinsky. Messages from David Beckham, John Bishop, Miranda Hart and Eddie Izzard were also played to the crowd.
Myleene Klass and Gethin Jones hosted the event.
A visual petition of 250000 spinning flowers was established for the event and a video of the building of the this petition can be seen here.
The 4 principle issues to be tackled by the governments of the world are:-
Enough Food For Everyone IF we give enough aid to stop children dying from hunger and help the poorest families feed themselves.
Enough Food For Everyone IF governments stop big companies dodging tax in poor countries.
Enough Food For Everyone IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land and grow crops to feed people, not fuel cars.
Enough Food For Everyone IF governments and big companies are honest and open about their actions that stop people getting enough food.
Also yesterday the PM gave a speech at the G8 Nutrition-for-Growth meeting the government has committed additional funding to help feed the world’s malnourished children.
A great good news day for the people of Britain.
